Ajan Khanna
Ajan Khanna is an Australian engineer, entrepreneur and product innovator based in Sydney. With a Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunications and early career experience integrating enterprise systems for organisations including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Westpac, Optus and National Australia Bank, he brings deep technical foundations to everything he builds.
In 2002, he founded Strategies Unleashed Pty Ltd (trading as Groovy Gadgets) and has spent more than two decades designing, manufacturing and commercialising consumer products sold across Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. Before founding Groovy Gadgets, Ajan worked as a Senior Systems Engineer at Axient Pty Ltd from 1999 to 2003, where he designed and integrated complex computer-based hardware and software systems for major Australian organisations. That experience in large-scale, mission-critical environments informed a practical, outcomes-focused approach that continues to underpin everything he does. Under his leadership, Groovy Gadgets developed a reputation for originality and technical novelty, expanding into physical retail and maintaining a long-standing presence at major consumer and trade events, including the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Reed Gift Fairs and Toy Fair.
Ajan has personally overseen the design and manufacture of a broad portfolio of low-voltage DC electronic products, including wearable electronics, interactive lighting and display technologies. His most commercially successful product, the JINX Luminous Jellyfish mood lamp, has achieved over 200,000 total sales (wholesale and retail combined) through more than 300 retailers, including Harvey Norman, Toyworld, Australia Post, Amazon US and Amazon UK, with distribution across Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. The product is renowned for its quality, featuring 10-day leak testing, whisper-quiet operation and a two-year warranty, and has found applications ranging from home decor to dental clinics and sensory environments.
Ajan has earned three Australian Promotional Products Association Best New Product awards across his broader product portfolio, including for The Levitator and the Transparent LCD Showcase, and has built a substantial intellectual property portfolio, including registered trademarks, design registrations and a pending Australian patent for spark suppression technology in battery-powered devices.
His current focus is the Power Buddy PRO 2700, an Australian-designed and Australian-made portable lithium/solar generator in the final stages of development. Rated at 2,700 watts with LiFePO4 battery technology and MPPT solar charging, the Power Buddy represents a strategic move into the growing portable power and clean energy market. It targets camping, caravan, marine, emergency and trade applications, and will be one of the few products in its category that is both designed and manufactured in Australia.
Outside of business, Ajan is a committed competitive sportsman with more than three decades of sport behind him. He played competitive squash for more than two decades before transitioning to competitive table tennis in 2014. More than a decade on, he remains an active competitor at the St George and Sutherland Shire Table Tennis Association. A married father of four, he brings the same discipline and persistence to sport as he does to product innovation.
